What does an 'A' rated insurer mean to you?
All financial and insurance businesses are independently 'rated' by knowledgable market analyst organisations.
The 'rating' is an indication of the financial strength and security of the business.
Many small insurance companies are not 'rated' and are known to be financially weaker and at greater risk of failure than a 'rated' insurer.
Over 1 million policyholders did not consider the risk
The relevance and importance of this has recently been evidenced by a number of small overseas insurers entering into bankruptcy and according to the Financial Conduct Authority, over 1 million policyholders are affected. A list of those businesses is also published on the Financial Services Compensation Scheme website.
Worryingly, a number of franchise (main) dealers and online providers of Gap, Tyre, SMART and Alloy Wheel Insurance are continuing to use small non rated insurers, despite their track record and higher risk of failure.

Claims team telephone lines are manned between 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday. Claims can be made out of hours and at weekends by leaving a recorded message on the claim team telephone number and by following up with another call on the next business day.
The claims team are highly trained in Gap, Tyre and SMART and Alloy Wheel Insurance claims and will work quickly and efficiently to deal with your claim. Always follow the claims process outlined in your policy document.
